My first massage and what should I know about it?

      Having a massage is a relaxing and enriching experience. However, if you've never had one, you may be curious what happens during a massage session. Don't worry, it's not rocket science, the main rule is to relax and enjoy yourself, the therapist will make sure of the rest!

       1. Before arriving: try to relax and allow yourself plenty time to get there without getting stressed out, will just take you more time to relax. Make sure you had some water to be hydrated and avoid a heavy meal, strenuous exercise or alcohol before the treatment with at least 1 or 2 hour, if possible. If not inform your therapist before starting the treatment.
      2. Upon arrival: be 10/15 minutes early or if a mobile therapist comes to you they will be earlier with 10 minutes so they will have time to set up the equipment for the treatment and start on time. Switch off or put on silent your phone to avoid distractions during treatment.We all deserve 1 hour for pampering.
      3. You will be asked to fill out a Medical Form or do it with your therapist as a consultation.These will be general questions and information,treated with strict confidentiality, is done only at first appointment, after will be just updated by therapist in case is needed. This would be the perfect time to ask anything that you didn’t understand and/or you are not clear about. Has to be an honest, open conversation, so don’t be shy to ask questions, it will help you relax easier during treatment.
      4. As a next step, the therapist, depending on what type of massage you choose, will advise you on what clothing items to remove and what position to lie on the massage bed and the full course of the treatment:
· Ex: back massage: - for men- remove t-shirt/shirt ; for women – T-shirt/blouse and/or bra (optional)
· Ex: full body: - for men and women – remove all clothing except underwear (bra optional)
· Ex: legs: - man and women – remove pants /shorts, keep underwear.    
In general light clothing is recommended, swim suit if it feels more comfortable instead of underwear. 
    5. Next the therapist will give you some privacy to get ready for the treatment and lie down on the massage table.
    6. During the treatment you can choose either to be silent or to talk, is no offence to the therapist if you just mention your wish, is all up to you but you will have to inform the therapist if something doesn’t feel good or is painful, or the pressure is not suitable to your needs.
    7. After the treatment, the therapist will advise you to stay calm for another few minutes, then stretch your legs/arms and only after get up in a sitting position first so you don’t get dizzy, since you were lying down and your body is relaxed and your blood pressure dropped.
   8. After you got dressed, your therapist will give you a few aftercare tips or answer any questions you may have. Always give an honest feedback on the treatment and how you feel, because this will help your therapist to develop a better treatment plan for you and also give a more tailored aftercare.

General guidelines:

- Always treat your therapist with respect
- Be honest about your medical history to avoid any unpleasant experiences and express your expectations from the treatment and give an honest, respectful feedback on the treatment.
- Therapists know that they have to treat all given information with strict confidentiality, so be honest and open. 
- Is normal if you fall asleep during massage, so just relax and let go.
